From the Desk of Paladin November 1 2025

 From the desk of Paladin

Good morning last night I uploaded some images that I was working on for a future series that I plan to run call Barataria. Unlike Darterra, this one will eventually be tied in the world of Gor and jump back and forth between the two worlds.

The basic prims is that the island of Barataria is located in a remote area of the Devil's Triangle well off the established shipping and flight paths. And the minerals that are found on the island virtually render it invisible to orbiting satellites as well as absorb radar and sonar signals. To the naked eye when seen from sea it appears to be a large mesa in the middle of the ocean. And it's secrets shielded by clouds if seen by aircraft not flying a near tree top level.

The secrets of the island were unlocked by pirates in the early 19th Century. They discovered it and named it Barataria as some of those men once sailed under the Infamous Pirate Captain Jean Lafitte while he had his stronghold by the same name near the port city of New Orleans. Eventually this ships that came and went from the island bringing in supplies and prisoners for slave labor stopped coming either having been destroyed or captured by the naval forces of Europe or the young United States. So for nearly 200 years the island and those living there have remained untouched by time except for those unlucky to venture too close or find themselves shipwrecked/ washed up on it's shores.

Till Now.....

   Barataria

 ERRV Zadkiel

Now that I have teased you
This is still in the planning stages and I have not started work writing it down yet. Like all of My work, I work on whatever the muse takes me to. But I have decided to start this along with working on the Darterra and Ragenta/Genta of Gor stories posting whatever I have finished at the time from all three.

    (1) I read the detailed descriptions in the DA illustrations.

    (2) The descendants of the pirates are up-to-date on the current world from the captives from shipwrecks, crashed aero-planes and the charter plane for which the ERRV Zadkiel is searching.

    (3) The landing parties from the ERRV Zadkiel are carrying modern civilian rifles for defense against wild animals, while the descendants of the pirates are limited to the weapons they can build and the scant firearms and ammunition they acquired from captured civilian ships and ship and plane wreckage.

    (4) I am happy to hear that Genta is in your rotation and that you will jump back and forth between Barataria and Gor. Since neither the descendants nor the Zadkiel have space flight technology, the Priest Kings or the Kur must have an interest in Barataria. What could that be?

    1. vyeh,

If you get the chance, find and watch a movie called Last of the Dogmen. The prims is much the same only it deals with a lost tribe of Cheyenne Dog Soldiers and their families that have been living in a remote hidden valley in the mountains since fleeing during the Sand Creek Massacre. In there case they simple killed outsider or refused to believe them.

This is very much the same. They would have acquired newer weapons but in limited numbers and little ammunition. As for the crew of the Zadkiel yes they have superior weapon and training and could ride in and blow the place to hell.

But to quote a line from an old action movie called Jake Speed, "Where's the entertainment value in that?"

Give the story a chance before you reject it. I am sure that it will surprise you.

And on that note, an uncharted remote island in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle where all sort of strange things happen like planes and ships vanishing, sightings of strange lights in the skies and tales of UFO's. You might be right what interest would the Priest Kings or the Kur have in a location like that to mask their coming and goings. Food for thought

      (1) I don’t expect the Zadkiel party to blow the place to hell. They are humanitarian do-gooders facing a culture of pirates. I expect the descendants to surprise the landing party, take their weapons and enslave them!

      (2) I’m not rejecting the story. I’m exploring the premise. I don’t think the early 19th century pirates had camp followers on their ships. They would use whores when they made port. Did the initial generation of pirates bring female relatives to be wives?

      (3) Nothing like lights in the skies and tales of alien visitation to mask actual alien visitation!

      (4) In “Summoned by their Master (12),” Leta and Nina are ravishing. Their hair is styled and they are wearing makeup. They look a lot hotter than “Rome might not be so bad (7).” There’s probably a drug in the wine, but they can’t refuse the wine.

      (5) In no longer resisting the humiliating demands from their Master, his men and his guest and craving their attention, are Leta and Nina victims of Stockholm Syndrome or are they following the evolutionary role of women espoused by John Norman?

  2. This sounds like a fascinating project. Good luck with getting it underway.

  3. Interesting concept, given that Bermuda itself was originally settled by shipwrecked mariners and colonists heading for the doomed Roanoke colony in Virginia. For quite a long time no-one knew that they were there...

    1. I didn't know that about Bermuda.
I also wonder why the Priest-Kings doomed the Roanoke settlement (smile)

    (2) Their Master is predictable in his nastiness. Why would he reward them with wine?

    (1) “Lady Regenta moves to Ar: Final Chapter” ends with Atilas telling her he is the sole owner of the renamed House of Atilas, declining to tell her what happened to Spectus, collaring her and naming her Genta.

    (2) In Tracker’s “At the Sardar Fair of En’Kara III,” Scipio’s friend and fellow slaver, Atticus, points out Atilas and says, “Spectus went to Brundisium … this Atilas and Lady Regenta traveled to Ar … Funny thing he and the Lady left as partners, and she arrived in a collar.”

    (3) “Atticus went on, ‘Funny thing though, he can’t sell her.’ [Scipio interjects,] ‘Whyever not. If she is collared and branded, she can be sold.’”

    (4) Atticus continues, “Because she knows too much. In a lot of ways, she was the wise business head among the three, she knows all their costs, their profits, their sources of supply.

    (5) “Another House would snap her up as soon as she arrived on the block. Mine for example, or any of the other major Houses of Ar. It would be a competitive advantage to find out what she knows.

    (6) “[So Atilas] is stuck with inventory he can’t sell. He has to feed her and kennel her, having her take up space, but he can’t profit from her. Even if he sells her far away, the network of Slavers would find out, someone would profit at [Atilas’] expense. So she takes up room and eats her head off.”

    (7) “Scipio nodded. “I’m sure Atilas extracts some satisfaction from her though.’ Atticus smiled. ‘One can always extract some satisfaction from a slave.’”

    (8) Of course, Atticus got some details wrong about, and exaggerated for dramatic effect, the story of Spectus, Atilas and Lady Regenta (Genta).

    (9) Genta colluded with Atilas to spoil Spectus’ plans for the House owned by the three. (Chapter 7) At her auction at the Curulean, she heard, “Sold to House of Chains of Port Cos for 3000 golden Tarns,” “her heart sank as she was now slave of her rivals” and she ended up the slave of Atilas (Final Chapter).

    (10) Since Atticus was serious that owning Genta would give him or another major Slaver a competitive advantage, Atilas can’t sell Genta. While Genta may not be eating “her head off,” she must be happy.

Yes you are correct at the end of Ragenta's move to Ar, Atlias was the sole owner of the house having gained Ragenta's share when he enslaved her and buying out Spectus.

Spectus likely returned to Brundisium after being bought out. I suspect that Atliias with his own wealth combined with gold that Ragenta turned over to him during their exit from the Caravan outside of Ar, He was strongly encouraged to leave Victory and not venture to Ar.

Atlias is not stuck with the slave Genta, He kept his promise to his long time friend and partner by selling her as she wished. But he also made arrangements for her to be bought by an agent bidding for him. So he kept his word to her, but still got the slave that he wanted for so long.

As for the rest, I have told Tracker that he is welcome to reference or use My characters in his stories if he wishes. And as REO Speedwagon sang "I know the neighborhood and talk is cheap when the story is good, and tales grow taller on down the line" So who knows how distorted the story of the slave girl Genta her become in the retelling.

      (1) In The Assessment Part I, “at a time when they needed more gold to expand their operation, Atilas had thought it wise to take on another partner in the slave house. Spectus had the gold they needed …”

      (2) In Lady Regenta moves to Ar: Chapter 8, Attica says to Lady Regenta, “you have increased my fortune tenfold.” Where did the gold come from?

      (3) Unless Lady Regenta was a lot richer than Atilas at the beginning of their partnership, her wealth came from the partnership and Attica receives equal shares in the partnership. If she was a lot richer, she could have funded the expansion of the operation.

      (4) The Assessment Part I says, “[Atilas’ and Lady Regenta’s] families … went back many years. They had even been playmates growing up until both started going through puberty and it was decided that it might not be proper for them to be spending so much time alone as Atilas was being instructed on the arts of capturing and binding slave and her family did not want him to practice his capture knots on her.” … Atilas [says, “[Lady Regenta] is an old personal friend.” (Part 1)

    3. ctd

      (5) The Assessment Part 2: “[Lady Regenta’s] mother had been a prized pleasure slave … The daughter of a pleasure slave would be seen as a slave as well.”

      (6) No one on Brinn’s estate sees Jacinta, daughter of pleasure slave Emma, as a slave. Jacinta “walked slowly toward her father with poise and dignity. … she really looked like a miniature Ubara. … She was just a child, just six years old … ‘Papa,’ said little Jacinta, ‘you have to kill that man.’ … [Lady Cassandra] smiled at Jacinta and added, ‘you can’t say things like that, my beata. Wait until you are older.’ ‘When I am older, Amita, I will kill all of the men who ever hurt my mother. All of them.’” (First Among Girls)

      (7) The Assessment Part 3: “… she dangles by her wrist horts off the floor of the chamber. … There is nothing she can do to stop [Norac] from administering the slaver’s caress. … Her heart sinking as she dangles by the wrists, twisting and squirming as her body betrays her.”

      (8) The Assessment Part 4: “If [Lady Regenta’s] mother had been conceived to be a pleasure slave, then some of those traits would have passed onto her.”

      (9) The Assessment Part 5: ”[Dantor says,] ‘If you find [Leta and Sena], promise that you will free and take care of them. All that I have is to be theirs.’ … ‘I promise, my friend,’ [Lady Regenta says], ‘I will not stop trying to find them.’

      (10) You were right in your 16 July 2025 comment to At the Sardar Fair in En’Kara to welcome Tracker to reference Atilas. It adds to the texture of both your stories.

      (11) You could write a story between The Assessment and Lady Regenta moves to Ar about Lady Regenta’s efforts to find Leta and Sena and to keep her promise to Dantor and her inevitable slide toward a brand and a collar.

      (12) Prime Slaves as Promised (14) shows their Master is a bastard. Leta and Nina obeyed him and he disposes of them. Perhaps, the green alien won’t be as careful as their master, they escape and lead the Time Agency on a temporal raid on their Master.

    4. vyeh,

At the time that Atilias and Ragenta took on a new partner they were doing very well but wanted to expand and do even more. Taking on a partner allowed them to do so without having to tie up all their own wealth in the House. This was done prior to Through Different Eyes and the Assessment.

You also have to understand that there is a great deal of gray area in Gor. As you cited details from Emma's stories, that might be how things were done in that part of Gor, or just in that House. Given the fact that Ragenta's father was a member in good standing with the Caste of Slaver. The Caste of Slaver may, and in this case view any offspring of a female slave as a slave its self. Hence why Leta was freed prior to giving birth to Ragenta. That might have been done for her sister but her birth was kept secret from her Master.

We know that sometime after the Assessment that Ragenta's secret was discovered by Spectus. That once that happened he delighted in treating her and using her as his personal slave when none were present. But it has never been said how long this went on. I have eluded that it went on for many months. During that time, Ragenta traveled for business several times up and down the Vosk. She wagered and invested increasing her wealth, which she kept in accounts under the name of Lady Andraus. Some of her fortune she would have gotten from Dantor's estate after his death.

It was never clearly stated just how close Ragenta and Atilas were. But Atlias family was of slaver as well. So the Slaver father of a beautiful red haired female might not wish to trust to good judgement when hormones are in play with the son of a Slaver.

There may be another installment that takes place before Moves to Ar. And likely will be. But right now, Time is not My friend. So real time and My DA account has taken up most of My spare time. As you noted I just gained over 800 Watchers. A couple months ago I had under 100, the account has taken on a life of it's own. With winter not far off, I may be able to work on both writing and artwork at the same time more than I have been.

Oh as for Time Slaves on DA, the girls may have been sold. But they are no longer on Earth, and the alien slaver is not likely to be careless with the security of slaves. And even if they got the chance to find the equipment. They would have to figure out how that system works to use it

      (1) I understand the time pressure. You published only one chapter in each of 2022 and 2023, none in 2024 and 29 over the last seven months of this year.

      (2) Your DA account shows a similar activity. From the beginning of 2022 to the beginning of 2023, you published 26 vintage images, mostly comics. Then you were inactive for 2 years.

      (3) In May, you started publishing TroyDM artwork, chapters of Regenta and a few vintage images.

      (4) At the beginning of August, you asked for reader input on Leta’s fate and got comments only from the usual suspects, AuntiePArm and Arizona Wanderer.

      (5) In the middle of August, you announced the absence of TroyDM and that you had “been toying with a couple of image generators” and posted your new artwork on both sites. Over the next month, you posted on DA about 30 of your images.

      (6) On September 11, you had 200 watchers; October 2, 300; October 15, 400; October 21, 500; October 27, 600; November 2, 700; and November 5, 800! Over the last two months you have been very prolific on DA and published 5 chapters of Marooned.

      (7) Follow your muse. There’s no pressure to write chapters to finish a book. I’m following Time Slaves. I don’t think there are any other series, unless you’re beginning one with Velma and Daphne.

      (8) I am satisfied to reread Mistaken Identity, read future installments of Time Slave and post comments on both.

      (9) I’d like to see an installment before Moves to Ar. Watching Regenta descend further from the end of The Assessment to the inevitable collar and brand is more interesting than watching Atilas and Genta change their relationship from old playmates, friends and partners to master and slave.

      (10) In Moves to Ar: Chapter 7, “Each night without being told she … strip, fold her clothing, then wait to be returned to the slave collar and chain. She would serve and please him in the room obeying without hesitation.”

      (11) In Time Slaves, the alien slaver only risks the loss of his slaves; their (former) Master risked their escape and raid by the Time Agency. And the girls are resourceful and trained agents.

      (12) I like Lady Regenta as a free woman dealing with the realization of her pleasure slave genes from Leta. I’m not sure you can write an interesting story about Genta as a natural slave adjusting to being the slave of her old playmate. Who knows? As prepubescents, they may have played master and slave.
